Monica L. Guzman, Ph.D, is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology in Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical College.
She leads a translational research program on developing therapeutic strategies for heme malignancies. In close collaboration with physicians and industry, her research has resulted in the translation of laboratory findings into clinical trials. She has authored or co-authored more than 70 papers in the field and has received funding from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, NIH, V Foundation, and the Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation, among other organizations, including the NIH Director’s Innovator Award and the V Foundation Scholar Award. She has become greatly involved in mentoring students and fellows, and have had 20 undergraduate, high school, and visiting students in her laboratory. Several have successfully gone to Medical School, Ph.D. programs, or other health-related careers. Several of the mentees have received prestigious awards. In addition, she is involved in DEI efforts by presenting at scientific meetings on topics related to equity and inclusion. She is a member of the steering committee for FOCIS Women in Clinical Immunology, co-chair of the social justice and anti-racism task force part of the WCM Graduate School, and co-director of the social barriers to STEM course at WCM. She was listed among 100 inspiring Hispanic/Latinx scientists in America. She has been included in the books Hispanic Role Models in Science: Advice for future scientists (Hispanics in Medicine and Science), and “Ciencia y Vida” a compilation of 36 Outstanding Mexican Scientists.
