Ana Zenclussen studied Biochemistry in Santa Fe, Argentina and received her PhD in Immunology at the University of Buenos Aires (2001). Following a fellowship from the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation, Ana established in Germany, at the Charité Medical Hospital in Berlin where she also obtained her venia legendi in 2006. In 2007, she was appointed Professor for Experimental Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Faculty of the OVGU University in Magdeburg, Germany. Since 2020, Ana is Head of the Department of Environmental Immunology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig and holds a Professorship for Pediatric Environmental Immunology at the Leipzig University in Germany. Her main research focus is the understanding of mechanisms behind the immune communication between mother and fetus and the long time impact of environmental stressors during this sensitive period of life. Ana published 180 papers and has obtained numerous awards and prizes, including the New Investigator Award of the American Society for Reproductive Immunology in 2002. She currently coordinates a Horizon project funded by the European commission that aims to understand how endocrine disruptors and chemical mixtures of concern target the immune system at vulnerable life stages to cause or perpetuate disease.
